Bertha Louise Hibbard

of Chelsea, formerly of Gaylord, age 94, died Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Silver Maples of Chelsea. She was born August 19, 1922 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred C. and Ida (Vilter) Trubshaw. Bertha earned her Bachelor's degree from Marquette University in 1944.  As part of the World War 2 effort, she moved to Washington DC to work as a cryptographer in the Army Security Agency.  After the war Bertha moved back to Milwaukee and married her brother’s best friend, Clark Hibbard, on September 4 1928. 

Margaret Ann Young

of Ann Arbor, MI, formerly of Lansing, MI, Benton Harbor, MI, Martinsburg, WV and Quincy, PA, age 90, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at her home. She was born May 25, 1927 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Seth Macrobius & Lura (Smith) Leutzinger. On July 18, 1948, she married Roger S. Young, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a son, LeRoy Young in 2002. 

Alice May Hadley

 Of Chelsea, age 78, died Sunday, August 6, 2017 at her home. She was born December 31, 1938 in Salem Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan, the daughter of Louis William & Alma L. (Inglehart) Esch.  Alice graduated from Dexter High School in 1957.  She worked for Chelsea Milling for 9 years, Ann Arbor Seed Co. for 16 years, and then Dapco for 30 years.  She was a hard worker all of her life, working full time until the beginning of this year.  Alice also worked on the farm, and enjoyed doing yardwork.  She liked gardening, going to garage sales, and playing euchre at card parties. She also loved to listen to talk radio, especially WJR. Alice was a loving mother, and loved spending time with her family.

Doris Jean Hammel

Doris Jean Hammel of Chelsea, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her husband and children on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

   She was born March 4, 1939 in Flint, Michigan. She was the daughter of Roy and Blanche Cora (Lockwood) McKellar, who have preceded her in death. Doris was the eldest of 8 children. Her siblings, who loved her dearly, are Ronald, Raymond (Shirley), Stanley, Lawrence (MaryAnne), Elizabeth, Dorothea and Norma.

    On August 18, 1962, Doris was married to James Walter Hammel. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and very giving to others. She graduated in 1980 from Chelsea Adult High. Doris was also an active member in the Modern Mothers Club, Twin Club and a Den Mother to Cub Scout Den Pack #455.

Elsie M. Satterthwaite Hochrein

of Gregory, MI, age 107, died peacefully Friday, August 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Chelsea. She was born March 12, 1910 in Chelsea, Michigan, the daughter of Ernest John & Addie (Ortbring) Pfitzenmaier.  Mrs. Hochrein lived in the Chelsea area all of her life.  She was a member of the Covenant Church and the Chelsea High School Class of 1929. Elsie loved animals, especially her dog Shady.  She traveled extensively, in the U.S. and abroad. Elsie enjoyed doing needlework, which she called her “fancywork.” She loved to play card games, especially euchre.
