Harriet Elizabeth Wahr

of Carol Stream, IL, formerly of Chelsea, MI, age 93, died peacefully Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Belmont Village in Carol Stream, Illinois. She was born August 23rd, 1923 in Lima Township, near Chelsea, MI, the daughter of Ezra E. Heininger and Dorothy Notten.

On November 17, 1956, she married Alvin A. Wahr in Chelsea, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2011. Survivors include three children, Larry (Pamela) Wahr of Bailey, CO, Linda Wahr of Carol Stream, IL, and Kevin (Mari Anna) Wahr of Gaylord, MI; 8 grandchildren, Braden, Alyssa, Landen, Jasmine (Dr. John) Castor, Karina (Andre) Wishon, Noah, Nathan, Nicholas; 5 great-grandchildren, Lillian, Isabella, Elliana, Phoenix, Logan.

Bernadette "Bernie" Ratza

of Ann Arbor, MI, age 80, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at U of M Hospital. She was born May 25, 1936 in Hamtramck, MI, the daughter of Chester & Lucille (Sczieski) Kolodzjieski.

Bernadette graduated from Berkley High School, class of 1954.  She was a homemaker most of her married life.  Bernadette joined the Chelsea Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2010. She was a member of Our Lady of Lasalette Catholic Church in Berkley. All of her children were born on a holiday. Bernadette liked to crochet and made all of her children afghans.

Eva Louise Jones

of Whitmore Lake, MI,  age 86, died on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at American House in Holland . She was born September 23, 1930 in Owensboro, KY, the daughter of Dee & Vida (Bean) Hall.

   Eva is formerly of Redford, where she lived for 30 years.  She was a member of Dexter Gospel Church, and worked for Kroger's in Westgate for 12 years. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Christopher Lawrence Duncan

Age 20, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017. He was born January 4, 1997 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Jessica Lee (Duncan) Coleman.

Chris attended Dexter High School, where he enjoyed wrestling. He worked at Diggit Contracting, and La Fontaine, both in Dexter. Chris enjoyed participating in motocross, BMX, and skateboarding. He loved nature and fishing.

Rebecca “Becky” Akcasu

of Stockbridge, MI, formerly of Dowagiac, Ann Arbor, and Burbank, CA, age 58, died Saturday, January 21, 2017 at her home with her family at her side. She was born February 2, 1958 in Dowagiac, Michigan, the daughter of Robert & Rosemary (Trowbridge) Sprague.

Becky went to school in Dowagiac and spent her senior year at Interlochen. She earned her undergraduate degree in art at the University of Michigan. Becky worked in the Advertising Art Department at the Ann Arbor News. She then went to Washtenaw Community College and became an RN. Eventually, she worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in the neonatal intensive care unit in Ann Arbor. In 1998, she moved with her family to Burbank, CA, where she worked in the NICU at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. In 2015, they returned to Michigan, moving to Stockbridge so they could keep their horses, Festus and Belle, at their home. Becky returned to St. Joe until she was stricken with cancer. A life-long horse lover, she belonged  to a horse camping group in California called “The Hoof Pack."  She loved to cook and bake, and enjoyed making homemade pizza for her family. She will be missed, especially at family Pizza Night.
