Kathy Anne Freyre

of Chelsea, MI, age 71, died Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice in Jackson. She was born July 14, 1947 in Monroe, Michigan, the daughter of Harry & Virginia (Taylor) Smith.

Kathy was an Estimator for Edwards Brothers for 37 years.  She was baptized in the First Congregational Church in Dundee.  Kathy loved watching NHRA drag racing. She enjoyed collecting recipes. Kathy did a lot of reading. She was a big fan of Jeopardy, and could have competed. Kathy liked to participate in lake adventures, especially water skiing. When younger, she enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter.

John Alden Cook


of Gregory, Michigan, age 84, passed to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at his North Lake home. He was born on February 21, 1935 to Ruth and Alden Cook in Traverse City and moved to Ann Arbor at 3 years, calling it home until 1956. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn; daughter, Susan (John) Schnitzel; sons, Robert (Peggy), David (Jacque), and Steven (Julie); as well as 10 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.  He is predeceased by his oldest son, Kenneth; parents, Ruth and Alden Cook; sister, Mary Cook Geddes; and brothers, Richard and Daniel. During his life, he served as a Marine, Real Estate Agent, Lumberman, and for many years as owner of Parent's Pride Diaper & Laundry Service.  

Barbara L. Cowen

of Chelsea, MI, formerly of Clarkston, MI and Bradenton, FL, age 90, died Friday, June 28, 2019 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born September 3, 1928 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Edward and Frances (DeGroot) Krem.

Barb spent most of her life in the Clarkston, Michigan area and later lived in Chelsea, MI and Bradenton, FL. She was a member of Community  Presbyterian Church in Drayton Plains, Westminister Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor, and Palma Sola Presbyterian Church in Bradenton,FL.  She enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School.  She retired from Clarkston Community Schools where she was the assistant to the superintendent. Previously she had leadership positions with the Pontiac Area United Fund. Her life was enriched as a member of the PEO Sisterhood.

Riley Sprinkle


Riley Dietrich Sprinkle, the newborn son of Erica Sprinkle, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019 in his loving mother’s arms just hours after birth due to prematurity.  Riley is survived by his mother, his twin brother Grayson, his loving brother, Jaden, his grandma, Carol Sprinkle, grandparents, Dave and Dawn Sprinkle, great-grandmother, Jean Smith, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kylie Jean Sprinkle and grandparents Olif and Nellie Sprinkle and Edward Smith.  A memorial service will be held on July 5, 2019, 3:00 pm at Cole Funeral Chapel.

 

 

Charles "Bo" Arthur Skelton

of Chelsea, age 72, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born October 4, 1946 in Oberlin, Ohio, the son of Charles Leroy & Mary Margaret (Kanagy) Skelton.

A multi-sport athlete in Wellington, Ohio, Bo went on to play football at Muskingum College where he graduated with a degree in economics in 1968.  While at Muskingum, Bo was president of the Mace club. He was a Mace for life and still of great joy to him was an annual Mace golf outing in West Virginia. Although born and raised in Ohio,  Bo moved his family to Michigan and became an avid U of M football fan, attending games as a season ticket holder for 40 years. Bo was a longstanding member of the Chelsea Athletic Boosters and organized the annual golf outing fundraiser, which was renamed in his honor several years ago and had it’s 28th annual outing this year.
