Marjorie I. Robbins Dack

of Pleasant Lake, MI, formerly of Chelsea, age 89, died Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson. She succumbed to the effects of COVID-19 14 days after she tested positive. She was born April 28, 1931 in Salem Township, Michigan, the daughter of Kenneth S. & Irene D. (Bennett) Proctor.

Marj truly wanted God's light to shine through her life.  She cared about people so much that for many years she opened her home to families of patients being treated at the headache clinic in Chelsea.  She was committed to Campus Crusade for Christ (now known as Cru) and through them performed courageous acts of service.  For 7 weeks in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina, she helped feed thousands of displaced people at God’s Katrina Kitchen in Pass Christian, Mississippi.  She also made two trips to Afghanistan to help widows learn sewing to support themselves, and to share the message of Jesus.

Melvin Lee Underhile Sr.

Of Grass Lake, MI, age 79, died Friday, September 18, 2020 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson, after a long illness. He was born November 4, 1940 in Olmsted, Illinois, the son of Melvin F. & Barbara A. (Caswell) Underhile.

Melvin graduated from Marion High School in Illinois, then served in the US Marine Corp for 4 years. He worked for Johnson Control in Manchester for 25 years. Melvin enjoyed bowling, golf and Euchre.

James "Jim" Lyle Utsler

James (Jim) Lyle Utsler of Chelsea, MI, quietly passed away on Saturday, September 12, after a long- and well-lived life. Born in Dexter, MI, on July 9, 1931, to Lyle and Beulah (Betty) Utsler. He served along with his twin brother Jerry in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, retired from a management position at General Motors and subsequently became a real estate agent serving the Chelsea/Dexter area.

Jim never failed to find adventure in life, whether going on an African safari; zip-lining in Costa Rica; piloting planes and sailing boats; daring rickety train rides in Mexico (a trip he often ruefully joked about); exploring Europe with his wife; rebuilding his and Janet’s cottage on Joslin Lake; cycling on backroads; cutting up while playing euchre; barking out “Go Blue!” during U-M football games (and razzing his MSU family and friends when the Wolverines beat the Spartans); or sneaking off to a dive bar for a cold beer. It was moments such as these—both large and small—that he enjoyed so much.

Marilyn Ann Daoust

 

Marilyn Ann Daoust of Chelsea, Michigan; formerly of Seattle, WA; Illinois, Indiana; and Plymouth, MI, age 86, died Monday, September 14, 2020 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born December 3, 1933 in Sterling, Illinois, the daughter of Elbert & Effie May (Dickey) Regan.

Marilyn was a member at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea. She was a secretary in Plymouth for 5 years and then stayed home with her 5 children. She loved having family and friends at their Chelsea home where all were greeted with open arms, enjoying cook outs, swimming, hanging out on the deck and sleepovers. Marilyn had a very special way of making sure that those close to her were loved unconditionally. She also enjoyed crocheting and watching the Detroit Tigers on TV.

Barbara Kelly Kline

Barbara Kline passed away peacefully at her home in the Chelsea Retirement Community on August 14, 2020. She was born on August 5, 1929 to Clifford and Naomi Kelly in Frederick, MD. She married James D. Kline on November 23, 1950; he preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by her daughter Andrea and son-in-law Paul Evanoff of Gregory, Michigan, her son Kelly of Baltimore MD, grandson Joseph Kline of Red Lion, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

Although she was an excellent student, Barbara’s father discouraged her interest in higher education since it would be “wasted on a housewife”. But, as soon as her children were old enough, Barbara began taking community college classes eventually earning Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Early Childhood Education and Administration. She worked at the Milford Mill Church Child Development Center for 27 years where she eventually served as Executive Director. A scholarship fund was established upon her retirement in recognition of her service.
