Paul Edward Becker

Age 95, died Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Silver Maples.  He was born January 1, 1924 in Chicago, IL, the son of Arthur E Becker and Harriet (Smith) Becker Kinkead.

Born and raised in Chicago, Paul was always motivated to learn, to serve, and to grow spiritually.  He did so much for Calumet High School that the school initiated a “service” letter just for him.  Paul attended the University of Chicago for two years before entering the Army Air Corps, where he became a 2nd Lieutenant instructor, flying many sorts of planes, from single air engines to B-29s. 

Joseph L. Geer

of Jackson, MI, formerly of Grass Lake, age 90, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Legacy Assisted Living in Jackson. He was born October 15, 1928 in Chelsea, MI, the son of William & Alura (Foster) Geer.

Joseph graduated from Chelsea High School in 1947, then served in the US Army in Germany from 1950 to 1952. He worked at Federal Screw in the early 1950's, where he met Gladys. Joseph retired from Chrysler Proving Grounds, where he worked most of the time in the Brake Lab. Joseph was a former member of North Sharon Baptist Church, and was currently a member of Faith Baptist. He served as the mechanic at church to keep the buses running. Joseph enjoyed working at home, woodworking and gardening. His garden fed a lot of family and neighbors. Joseph led Bible studies at Legacy Assisted Living. He didn’t enjoy games, but he loved helping the kitchen staff at Legacy.

Shirley Mae “Sherry” Drew

Sherry DrewShirley Mae “Sherry” (Hunter) Drew, age 83, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019.  She was born February 5, 1936 in Akron, Ohio.  Sherry (she preferred this name) was a loving wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed celebrating holidays and special meals with her family and friends. She had a way of making sure that when you spent time in her home it was relaxing, comfortable and filled with loving hospitality.

Harve Sohn Bock

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 94, died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Chelsea Retirement Community.  He was born February 25, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Richard Sohn Bock and Cora (Watters) Bock.  After graduating from Oakdale High School in Oakdale, PA, he joined the Army Air Corps and served as a navigator on B-24s in the European Theater during World War II. Following his military service, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Business Administration. He and his high school sweetheart, Betty Ann (Young), were married on December 26, 1947 during his school break. After college, with his business degree and experience working in the family dealership in Oakdale, he began a 36-year long career with the Chevrolet Division of General Motors. He started in the Pittsburgh Zone Office and then moved to the Buffalo Zone Office a year later. All three of his children were born in Buffalo, then in 1963 he moved to the Detroit Zone Office and ultimately in 1970 to the Chevrolet Central Office from which he retired in 1985 as the National Consumer Relations Director.

Ruth Elizabeth Wescott

of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Ypsilanti, age 97, died Friday, February 15, 2019 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born April 18, 1921 in Estherville, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer C. & Mae (Eisenhower) Jackson.

   Ruth lived in Ypsilanti for about 50 years until she moved to the Garden Apartments of Chelsea Retirement Community in the 1990s.  Ruth was an active member of First United Methodist Churches in Ypsilanti and Chelsea, where she participated in the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School for many years.  She was a former President and active member of PEO.  Most importantly, she was a devoted wife and mother.
