Shirley J. Case

Of Chelsea, MI, formerly of Grass Lake, age 88, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at her home in Chelsea with her family. She was born April 19, 1932 at her home in Waterloo, MI, the daughter of Elmo L. & Zella B. (McConnell) LeVan.
Shirley graduated from Chelsea High School in 1950. She worked at Ford Motor Co. until the kids were born, then worked at H & H Distributing for many years until her retirement. Shirley was a lifetime member of Waterloo United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, lead the youth group, and taught VBS for many years. She enjoyed playing Bunco at the Pines. Shirley crocheted many afghans and played Euchre. The most important thing to her was her family.

Laura Mary Harper

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 102, died Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born June 29, 1918 in Dexter Township, the daughter of Gustav & Mary (Schneider) Leuneberg. Laura graduated from Dexter High School in 1936, and Cleary College. She worked as a bookkeeper at Harper Electric until her retirement in 1980. Laura was active with the First United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor. During their retirement, Laura and her husband Herb loved to travel in their motorhome. It was very important to both of them to help other people.
 

David James Hammel

Of Pleasant Lake, MI, formerly of Munith & Chelsea, age 53, passed away peacefully Friday, October 30, 2020 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor following a short illness. He was born May 28, 1967 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of James W. & Doris Jean (McKellar) Hammel.  David graduated from Chelsea High School in 1985, and attended Washtenaw Community College. He worked as a Customs Compliance Specialist at Gnutti Carlo USA (formerly MS Precision) in Webberville. David loved hunting and fishing. His biggest joy in life was fishing with his son, Russell. He played guitar, and loved family music get-togethers, campfires, and watching sunrises and sunsets. He also wrote beautiful poems. He touched the hearts of many, and will be missed.

David Edward Manning

of Chelsea, Michigan, Age 76, died Sunday, November 1, 2020 at his home. He was born July 7, 1944 in Hillman, Michigan, the son of Benjamin & Rebecca Agnes (Nichols) Manning.  David graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1962, and went on to Muskegon Business College to become a CPA. David served in the army in Vietnam. He worked as a CPA his whole life, until 2007, when he became CFO for Bedford Township. He retired from Bedford Township in June, 2020. David was a member of Chelsea First United Methodist Church. He loved their hunting cabin on the Pine River, where he enjoyed hunting, 4-wheeling, and spending time with friends and family.

Helen Marie Oliver

Age 76, died Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Hillside Terrace in Ann Arbor. She was born February 7, 1944, in Monroe, Michigan, the daughter of Henry & Clara (Vanisacker) D'Haene.  Helen graduated one year early from St. Mary’s Academy in Monroe in 1960. She attended EMU (where she met Jimmy) and also took accounting classes at Cleary College. She was a bookkeeper for several businesses in Ann Arbor including the Big 10 Party Store (for over 20 years), Red Bull, Paesano Resturant, and HSA Builders in Saline. She was very active in the Ann Arbor Moose Lodge. She attended St. Andrew's United Church of Christ in Dexter with her daughter. She liked to read, and enjoyed gardening and canning with her family. She raised several dogs over the years. Most importantly, she was a very supportive mother and grandmother, and enjoyed activities with her granddaughters.
