Royal “Roy” Lewis Richards Jr. of Ann Arbor, Michigan, formerly of Ypsilanti, Pinckney, and Gregory, age 82, passed away after a long illness Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Optalis of Ann Arbor. He was born April 19, 1944, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Royal Lewis “Louie” Richards Sr. and Lavon Irene (Suman) Riplow.

Roy graduated from Ann Arbor High School. He worked as a stockkeeper for IGA and A & P, then went to work for the Cloverleaf Restaurant in Ann Arbor as a line cook. He loved to play bingo and the lottery, and enjoyed fishing and NASCAR. Roy will be remembered for being helpful and independent.

Roy married Maryann Mysyk in 1980, and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2003. He was then married to Jacqueline Richards for 12 years before she preceded him in death on March 29, 2017. He is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Tim) Dufek of Belleville, and Jackie (Donald Bates) Center of Ann Arbor; brothers, Leo Richards of Ypsilanti, and Eugene (Diane) Richard of Alabama; sister, Carol (Bruce Schaible) Hagen of Ypsilanti; sister-in-law, Caroline Richards; grandchildren, Josh and Haylee; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Maryann and Jacqueline, he was preceded in death by Tammy’s mother, Sharon Richards; and brothers, Jerry Richards and Danny Richards.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 4, 2026, 11 a.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, with Pastor Jeffery Harrold officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 10 - 11 a.m. Burial will be at Oak Grove East Cemetery in Chelsea. Memorial contributions may be made to Roy’s family (checks can be made to Tammy Dufek).

We share our condolences to Roy's family. A monetary donation to our church's mission program will be made in his rememberance so even during this sad time a positive and hopeful future can come to those who hear the Gospel. With our prayers and love from Alabama Eugene, Dianne, and family.
