of Chelsea, Michigan, age 97, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born June 13, 1927, in Caln Township, Pennsylvania, the son of William Davis and Olive P. (Wynn) Hall.

Fred was a WWII veteran. He served in the United States Marine Corp Platoon 521 from 1945-1946. During that time, he earned Marksman and qualified as Guard. Fred was responsible for electroplating at a variety of companies throughout his career. He retired as Superintendent of Norris Industries Auto Trim in Spencer, West Virginia, in 1989. Fred was a true inventor. Though nothing was patented, what he engineered was useful to him and those around him. Fred enjoyed motorcycle racing and sponsored stock car racing in the Philadelphia area and was innovative in the development of NASCAR racing. Later on, his hobbies became a bit calmer and he enjoyed creating stained glass and woodworking. Fred loved animals, going on long drives with his wife, visiting flea markets, doing puzzles and cheering for the Cincinnati Reds.

On November 20, 1946, Fred married Joyce Flicker in Elkton, Maryland. She preceded him in death on September 12, 2017. He is survived by his sons, William Hall of Deepwater, West Virginia, and Thomas Hall of Jackson; his daughters, Gloria (Jack) Stiles of Swanton, Ohio, and Theresa (Jeff) Barlow of Dexter; sister, Shirley Evans of Royersford, Pennsylvania; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dawn Waugh; and grandson, Zackrey Hall.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 21, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery in Sylvan Township. The family received friends before the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Senior Center, 512 Washington St., Chelsea, MI 48118.

A WW2 Marine corps marksman, truly my kind of American hero. The tail end of the greatest generation of human beings. Because of them we survive. May the soul of this dearly departed man rest in peace. God bless his entire family.
