of Grass Lake (formerly of Ann Arbor), 93, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by his son, Roy Edgar Margenau, III of Grass Lake and daughter, Jill Dove Margenau of Battle Creek. He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 62 years, Dove Margenau, and his brother, Joel Shaw Margenau, 89.

Roy was born and raised in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan with bachelor's degrees in Mining Engineering and Geology and a Master's in Mining Engineering. He first worked for Texaco in Texas and Ontario, Canada. After returning to Michigan, he entered the automotive industry like his father. Roy worked for Chrysler Corporation for over 45 years; first with the truck development team in Detroit, then at the Proving Grounds in Chelsea for over 40 years until his retirement in 2001.

Roy lived in Ann Arbor for almost 40 years. While there, he was very active in his children's lived and activities: from Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school bands to his daughter's horse and of course, his son's love of cars. He shared his passions and skills with his family, taking them tent camping, canoeing, hiking and hunting. Roy was always eager to share what he knew and help others learn. He had many adventures throughout the years and loved to tell their stories. He also loved to travel; whether driving on back roads or flying to foreign countries.

A joint celebration of life gathering was held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 1:00pm at 92 Garrison Ave., Battle Creek, Michigan. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.

40 + years of hunting with Roy, listening to him talk about the auto industry, and exchanging life experiences by the warm wood stove at Camp are the most precious memories. Roy was part of the family. He will be always in my heart.
