Obituaries

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 95, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Legacy Assisted Living in Jackson. She was born January 5, 1928, in Chelsea, Michigan, the daughter of Elmer W. and Hilda M. (Wenk) Pierce.  Joan graduated from Chelsea High School in 1945. She worked for The University of Michigan for 25 years, retiring in 1993 from the School of Natural Resources. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. She loved to square dance and travel. She enjoyed bowling at Chelsea Lanes.
 
On November 20, 1948, she married Edward W. Kipfmiller at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Chelsea, and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1957. Her brother, Donald F. (Donna) Pierce of Chelsea also preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Edward Dennis (Danielle) Kipfmiller of Chelsea; two daughters, Sheryl (Jimmie) Bingham of Easley, SC, and Jill (Mark) Booth of Homer; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Adam, Erin, Lisa, Alan, Heather, Nicole, and Melissa; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
No public services are planned. Burial will be at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or Gentiva Hospice of Jackson. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel.
