Obituaries

of Cement City, Michigan, age 76, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023 at her home. She was born July 11, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Carl and Eileen (Nantau) Freed.  Karen was a member of the Plymouth High School class of 1965. She had a beautiful voice, singing in the Triple Trios singing group in high school. She enjoyed bowling at Redford Lanes, and decorating beautiful wedding cakes. Karen loved animals, especially her dogs. She was a loving mom, devoted to her children. Karen was a very selfless person that was often “too kind”.

On April 3, 1965, she married Leon D. “Lon” Sheffer, and he survives. Other survivors include her two daughters, Michelle (Kevin) Cook of Brooklyn, Leah (James) Herbert of Howell; three grandchildren, Joshua, Brooke, Nicholas; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Gregory Freed, and a sister, Gail Davis.

No services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Mental Health America or the Cascades Humane Society. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
