Obituaries

of Chelsea, MI, passed away on August 21, 2023 after a short, but strong, battle with cancer.  Her battle was defined by many as "stoic", which is a great description of her.  She was born on April 28, 1944 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Elborn John (aka "Dino") Ziebell and Irene Ida Mae Ziebell.  At age 3 the family moved to northern Michigan, settling in Leland.  While in Leland she worked part-time at her dad's business, the Leelanau Enterprise,  as did all of her siblings.  After graduating from Leland Public School, Jean went on to study as a dental assistant.  After a short stint in that field, she decided to move on and began working for Wellman Press in Lansing as an editor in the publishing world.  The company eventually was sold to the John Henry company,  from which she retired.

Jeanie was affectionately known early on as "Aunt Armenia" because as a young child she was told that if she didn't eat her food it would be sent to the starving children of Armenia.  Eventually she owned the accolade of "Sweet Petunia", and in later years she was "Beanie" thanks to the auto-correct feature of her niece's smart phone.  Jeanie had an infectious smile and personality with a great sense of humor that included the ability to laugh at herself.

Jeanie loved being an aunt, and would regularly do her best to entertain her nieces and nephews at their young ages with special long weekends.  This even extended in later years to great nephews and nieces.  She never missed a holiday or birthday to all with a greeting card. And she was always a stallworth with providing snack mix to all family parties.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, EJ Ziebell and Irene Ziebell, and her nephew Daryl Egeler.  She is survived by her sisters Judith Egeler and Joy Plamondon Ziebell, and nephews and nieces Susan (Bob) Decker, David Egeler, Daniel (Janet) Egeler and Gayle Egeler, as well as eight grand nephews and nieces.

Jean was a true force of nature. She never let anything get her down. I was honored to call her friend. We are all here to help each other in one way or another. Jean helped me, just as much as I helped her. She will be missed. Love to all her family. God Bless you, Jean!
