Obituaries

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 94, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023, at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born May 22, 1929, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Stine) Sohn.

Cheryl graduated from Imlay City High School in 1946. She married Don Schoenberg on April 19, 1947. Together, they traveled from farm to farm in the “thumb” region of Michigan. They towed their trailer home with them from farm to farm. While doing this they made many lasting friendships. In 1952, they moved to Grass Lake, Michigan, where Don took a job as a herdsman for Gotfredson Farms. In 1965, they moved to Chelsea, where Cheryl took a job as a Dental Assistant/Receptionist for Dr. Clare Warren. She worked there until she retired in 1985. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and taught children's Sunday school. She loved playing Euchre with friends, gardening, and she and Don had many adventures traveling across the U.S. and Europe, with their children and, later, with friends.

On April 19, 1947, she married Donald Ray Schoenberg in Imlay City, and he preceded her in death on December 18, 2015. Survivors include two sons, Doug (Beckie) of Chelsea, and Dale (Cindy) of Stockbridge; and a sister, Rita Makedonsky of Imlay City. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Corrie (Matthew Arnn) Schoenberg, Rachel (Joseph) Ivanowski, Christopher (Jessica) Schoenberg, Sunni (Eric Moore) Schoenberg, Kaci (Robert) Wright; and 10 great-grandchildren, Colin Botwinski, Wyatt Ivanowski, Rhett Ivanowski, Dash Arnn-Schoenberg, Anwen Arnn-Schoenberg, Finn Schoenberg, Ava Schoenberg, Henry Schoenberg, Lailah Wright, and Emma Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; and a son, Dean Schoenberg.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 23, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 3050 S Fletcher Rd, Chelsea, with Pastor Kurt Hutchens officiating. Burial will follow at Vermont Cemetery in Chelsea. The family will receive friends at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, Saturday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., and at the church Sunday, prior to the service starting at noon. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or Habitat for Humanity.

Doug and Beckie, Sending love and sympathy to you and all of your family. Remembering your Mom's beautiful life! Praying your hearts find comfort in her light, beauty, laughter, and all the wonderful memories you have of her. Your Mom was so much fun and such a good friend to mine. There must be quite a card game going on up there in heaven right now. Keeping you all in our prayers. Joanie and Cam

My Dad (Tony Kreiner) and Cheryl shared a birthday and so they got together to celebrate and laugh. Popcorn and beer with cards was a big highlight because that is what they did for fun while Don and Cheryl had their milk testing trailer parked at our farm. Rest In Peace. You will always be remembered dear friend.

How much Cheryl's laughter & sweet stories shall be missed by myself, by all who had the good fortune of knowing her. From childhood I knew her, as she helped Don as a milk tester throughout the Thumb, staying routinely at our farm - that of Tony & Mary Kreiner. They kept a long laughing lasting friendship. To Cheryl- Love!
