Alberta May Sabin

of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Springport, Sandusky, and Oscoda, age 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family, on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Glazier Commons of the Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born October 11, 1927, in Dickson Township, Michigan, the daughter of James Vincenzo and Dorothy Lucile (Castner) Arquilla.

Alberta spent her youth living on the farm near Brethren Michigan. She later went to Central Michigan University for her Bachelors (and eventually Masters) of Education, where she met her husband, Harold Sabin. Together they taught in Springport, Sandusky, and Oscoda Area Schools. In her 35 years as a public servant, Alberta taught home economics, science, 3rd grade, and was a school counselor.

George David Chizmar

 Age 75, passed away peacefully at home in North Lake Leann, Jerome, MI, on Monday, March 3rd, 2025, after a courageous nine year battle with prostate cancer.  He was surrounded by loved ones. George previously lived in Wheatfield and Demotte, IN. A true American patriot and veteran, George was born on the 4th of July, 1949, in Chicago, IL to George Chizmar (U.S. Navy veteran) and Grace I. Hargrave, both of whom predeceased him.

George proudly served in the U.S. Army (SP5), during the Vietnam War years as a trumpet player in the Army Band and often traveled the U.S. playing taps for deceased soldiers returning home from war. George graduated in Information Technology programs from the University of Indiana (Bachelors and Masters). He was employed in various industries over the years including: United States Steel, General Motors, Weyerhaeuser, and Westinghouse. Later, George was called upon as a special contractor-consultant for the U.S. Government (DoD), at the United States Embassy, Baghdad, Iraq.

Evelyn Louise North

of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Dexter, age 100, died Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born November 14, 1924 in Goodrich, MI, the daughter of Merle & Mary (Jordan) Kurtz.

Evelyn started college at Michigan State, then transferred to Western Michigan, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She went to work at the University of Michigan as the Promotions Coordinator for the U of M’s Division of Management Education where she worked for 28 years before retiring.

John A. "Jack" Eggleston

of Freedom Township, Michigan. age 93, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Chelsea Hospital after a short illness. He was born March 4, 1932, in Dearborn, Michigan, the son of Ivan LeRoy and Florence Marie (Pejeau) Eggleston.  Jack served in the Air Force for four years, and graduated from Lawrence Tech Institute with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Jack worked for Bendix Corp in electronics before becoming a Journeyman Carpenter for over 30 years. Jack built his family’s home and helped his son renovate his home. Family and friends were important to Jack. He made his family a priority and enjoyed spending time with them and helping whenever needed.

Judith Ann (Stelzner) MacQueen 

of Gregory, Michigan, formerly of Coshocton, OH; Columbus, OH; Woodville, OH; Detroit, MI; Novi, MI.  Age 82, died Thursday, January 16, 2025, at her home under hospice care. She was born January 1, 1943, in Coshocton, Ohio, the daughter of Glenn W. and Ruth Elizabeth (Schroder) Stelzner.
 
Judy grew up in the Presbyterian Church in Coshocton, Ohio. She graduated from Coshocton High School in 1961, Valedictorian. Judy attended Ohio University and then transferred to The Ohio State University to complete her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1966. She received her Master's of Nursing degree from Wayne State University in 1977. Judy worked as a nurse for 50 years, retiring on her 50th anniversary. Judy started taking string bass lessons in her 50's and played in various orchestras and string ensembles. Her first love, though, was the trombone which she played her entire life. Judy also played tenor saxhorn in a Civil War Band for more than 30 years.
