Fred William Hall

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 97, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born June 13, 1927, in Caln Township, Pennsylvania, the son of William Davis and Olive P. (Wynn) Hall.

Fred was a WWII veteran. He served in the United States Marine Corp Platoon 521 from 1945-1946. During that time, he earned Marksman and qualified as Guard. Fred was responsible for electroplating at a variety of companies throughout his career. He retired as Superintendent of Norris Industries Auto Trim in Spencer, West Virginia, in 1989. Fred was a true inventor. Though nothing was patented, what he engineered was useful to him and those around him. Fred enjoyed motorcycle racing and sponsored stock car racing in the Philadelphia area and was innovative in the development of NASCAR racing. Later on, his hobbies became a bit calmer and he enjoyed creating stained glass and woodworking. Fred loved animals, going on long drives with his wife, visiting flea markets, doing puzzles and cheering for the Cincinnati Reds.

Sylvia Kleanthous

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 97, died Monday, December 16, 2024, at her home in Chelsea. She was born May 12, 1927, in Chania Crete, Greece, the second of three children born to Nicholas and Athena (Gerakakis) Maropoulou.

Sylvia was born and raised in Greece. At the end of high school, she was offered a U.S. scholarship to study medicine. She came to the U.S. with 7 other European children who had also been offered the scholarship. Sylvia attended class at Indiana Teacher's College in Terre Haute for the first year. She then transferred to Wayne State for pre-med. Sylvia met Costas at Wayne State, in anatomy class. After she graduated from Wayne State, they got married and moved to Ann Arbor, where he attended U of M medical school. After medical school, Costas joined the army and they traveled the world - Texas, Germany, Italy, Africa, Oklahoma, Virginia, Georgia, and then in 1980, retired in Chelsea.

Slavka Savic

of Munith, Michigan, formerly of Cumic, Serbia, age 103, died Saturday, December 14, 2024, at her home in Munith. She was born in 1921, in Cumic, Serbia, the daughter of Alexander Milivojevic and Ruza Simic.

Slavka loved her church, St. Lazarus Orthodox Cathedral. She enjoyed gardening and traveling. Slavka retired from the University of Michigan.

Sherry Anda Baibak

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 75, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024, at her home. She was born October 22, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Andy Richard and Geraldine C. (Cheatham) Blackwell.

Sherry grew up in Chelsea, graduating from Chelsea High School, class of 1967. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Michigan in the office of the Vice President of Communications. She enjoyed cross-stitching and loved her grandchildren and granddogs.

Carol Helen Quandt

Age 92, died Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Lakehouse Kalamazoo. She was born October 25, 1932, in Dearborn, Michigan, the daughter of Emil H. & Salome C. (Augst) Schroeder.

Carol was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chelsea. She was an educator in the South Redford School District and at the University of Michigan Dearborn for over 15 years each. Carol enjoyed reading and writing, along with attending plays, art galleries and museums.
