Obituaries

Philip Millerof Chelsea, MI, formerly of Sanford, NC, age 92, died Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born August 16, 1923 in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Vernon & Helen (McVeigh) Miller.  Philip served in the US Navy during WWII and flew air/ sea rescues. He went to Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana. Philip loved being a traveling salesman until his retirement in 1977. He and Freda lived in Sanford, NC, where he loved to golf and loved being in the Country Club. He attended the United Methodist Church. Philip enjoyed fishing, traveling, and football, especially U of M.  He was a talented photographer, and took pictures at many weddings.

On April 29, 1945, he married  Freda Lenore Butcher and she preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 2010. He is survived by a son, Terry (Justine) Miller of Chelsea, three daughters, Marilyn Miller of Hammond, IN, Cheryl Miller of Lawrence, KS, Diane (Chris) Cartheuser of Loveland, OH; 5 grandchildren: Michele, Christine, Janet, Quinn, and Clare; 2 step-grandchildren: Dalisa and Danae; 7 great-grandchildren: Denice, Derrick, Christopher, Jade, Justina, David, and Dylan; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Robert (Sue), Carol (Mark) and Duane (Becky) Butcher and Laura Rodriguez, Nancy, Danny and Don Miller, Colleen (Mike) Collins. He was preceded in death by a brother Donald; and a sister, Carol.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 30, 11:00 am at the main chapel of Chelsea Retirement Community.  Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.
