Obituaries

of Ann Arbor, Michigan, age 74, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 30, 2015. She was born March 4, 1941 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Awbery & Ruth Elizabeth (Mattison) Whitfield.

  Mary Ellen graduated from Pioneer High School in 1959.  She most recently worked at Busch's in Dexter, and previously at Lowes in Scio Township, Sarns, and the Ann Arbor Police Department. Mary Ellen loved playing cards, working puzzles, and was also an avid reader and hot air balloon enthusiast.

 She is survived by three sons, Frealin (Lisa) Craft II of Augusta, GA, Randy Craft of Ann Arbor, Jeffery (Connie) Craft of Pinckney; one daughter, Tresa (John) Jex of Madison Heights; and their father, Frealin Craft of Manchester; four sisters, Patsy Hentz of Ann Arbor, Sally Peer of Washington DC, Nancy Hoxie of West Branch, Lucy (Doug) Kuligowski of MN; two sisters-in-law, Letha Atkinson, Josephine (Harold) Murphy; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a brother, David Whitfield, a great-granddaughter, Natalie Rose Clair, her parents, a brother-in-law, Paul Craft, and her mother and father-in-law, Mary and Carl Craft.

   A memorial service was held Tuesday, November 3, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Vaughn McCoy officiating. Burial will be at Rowe’s Corner Cemetery. The family received friends Monday between 5-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
