Obituaries

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 85, died Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born February 26, 1938 in Livonia, Michigan, the daughter of Roy M. & Dorothy Van Atta.  Jan graduated from Northville High School. She worked at the bank to put Jerry through college, and left work to raise her children.  She and Jerry moved to Chelsea in 1970. She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Jan enjoyed her chickens and selling eggs. 

On February 28, 1959, she married Gerald "Jerry" Dresselhouse in Northville, and he preceded her in death on May 15, 2011. Survivors include a son, Bruce Dresselhouse of Chelsea; her grandson, Owen; a daughter-in-law Pamela of Howell; two brothers-in-law, William (Peg) Chizmar of Florida, Robert (Audrey) of Tawas; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son David and her sister Carolyn Nester

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Chelsea. Burial will follow at Vermont Cemetery in Chelsea. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11am. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1515 S. Main St, Chelsea, MI 48118. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel.

I have a million memories of time spent with the Dresselhouses. They were my second family when I was growing up. I'm so glad I was able to spend time with Jan over the last 5 or 6 years. She was a dear friend and I will miss her greatly.
