of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Ann Arbor, age 87, died Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born January 10, 1936, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Frank John and Younoula “Jennie” Kokenakes.
Ted was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School. He owned and worked for several party stores in the Ann Arbor area. Ted retired from the University of Michigan where he worked in the Housing Department. He enjoyed playing the piano, traveling and U of M sports. Ted had a kind heart and touched the lives of many. For Ted, family was everything.
Ted married Sharon Lee Porter on March 25, 1963. They lived together in Ann Arbor, for fifty-five years before relocating to Chelsea. Sharon preceded him in death on April 22, 2022. Ted is survived by his two daughters, Melissa Kokenakes of Chelsea, and Jennifer (Scott) Cratty of Spring Hill, Florida; and two grandchildren, Sarah Budnick and Nathan Budnick. In addition to his wife, Ted was preceded in death by his daughter, Therese Kokenakes; brother, Peter Kokenakes; and two sisters, Mary Manos and Ethel Lewis.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 20 2:00pm at the Glacier Commons/Towsley Village Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the UMRC Porter Hills Foundation for the Team Member Support Services East.
