Age 87, passed away Friday, July 10, 2026 at Chelsea Retirement Community, CRC. He was born August 13, 1938 in Elk Rapids, Michigan, the son of Richard Ivan and Doris Ellen (Davis) Somers.
Norm graduated from Northville High School in 1956, then went on to study at Ferris Institute graduating in 1961 with a bachelor’s of science degree in Pharmacy. In the Spring of 1957, Norm was chasing a dream when he started as a Great Lakes Seamen working on iron ore boats, specifically the Morgan Jr.. Norm previously worked in Northville and Novi before opening the South Lyon Pharmacy known as the “corner store”. He was a member of Kiwanis and was a member of the South Lyon Masonic Lodge #319. Norm was a docent for the South Lyon Historical Society at the Witches Hat Depot Museum. Myla and Norm enjoyed many trips to Florida and the Caribbean. He enjoyed helping out the neighboring businesses by snow blowing the sidewalks in the winter. He would tell you that, “Sadness is not part of my dictionary, joy and happiness is”.
Norm married Myla R. Mull in 1981 and she survives. Other survivors include, daughter, Laura Lynn (Todd) Mason of California, KY; brother, Charles Owen (Rosalie) Somers of Spring Lake, MI; 5 nieces and nephews; and a grand dog LeRoy. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Ann Somers, and his brother Richard Keith Somers.
