Richard Scott Hastings of Chelsea, Michigan, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Trinity Health in Ann Arbor. He was born April 13, 1962, in Port Huron, Michigan, the son of Darryl Jon (Sue) Hastings & Blanche Kaye (Smith) Ryan.

Richard graduated from Washtenaw Community College with a degree in graphic arts. He worked at Dawn Food Products for 12 years, and had many side jobs, including construction. His most important job was being at home, raising his kids and being involved in their lives. He could build anything, was especially good at woodworking, and was a great artist. Richard loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a loving & caring person. He was rowdy and wild until mellowed out as the “Papa” to his grandchildren.

On June 12, 1993, he married Tammy Ann Tarbet in Livonia, and she survives. Other survivors include four children, Erica Sater of Chelsea; Kyle (Sarah) Sater of Ypsilanti, Rachel (Jim) Goff of Ypsilanti, Jacob Hastings of Chelsea; 4 grandchildren, Julia, Paisley, Aila, Teagan; 3 siblings, Randy Hastings, Matt Hastings, and Savara Hastings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 16th, 11:00 am at the Chelsea First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, from 10-11 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St., Chelsea, MI 48118. Arrangements were entrusted to Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
