Age 99, died Thursday, January 4, 2024. She was born February 22, 1924, in Oscar, Kentucky, the daughter of Paul F. and Florence G. (Boyd) Denton.
Polly graduated from Dexter High School in 1942, and Detroit Business School Institute in 1943. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in Ann Arbor for seventy years. She worked as a secretary for University of Michigan Hospital, Grace Bible Church, and Ann Arbor Pool Builders.
Polly married Billie R. Basler and he preceded her in death on April 13, 1987. She is survived by her children, James Scherdt of Ann Arbor, MI; Randal Scherdt of Whittaker, MI, and Judy (Dave) Pherson of Redford Twp, MI; a brother; Paul Denton, of Ann Arbor, MI; 12 grandchildren, Randy, Timothy, Lisa, Melissa, Amy, Rebecca, Karen, Betsy, Kimberly, Dennis, Tracy, Lauren; 14 great-grandchildren; and niece and nephew, Charlie and Paula Denton. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Arthur (Buddy), Ronald, and Dennis; a sister Patricia Denton; and a niece and nephew, Laura & Tommy Denton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 8th, 2p.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, with Rev. Tyson Lemke officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-6 and from 1-2 on Monday prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Bible Church of Ann Arbor.
