of Dexter, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2018 after an extended illness. She was born February 23, 1936 in Flint, Michigan to the late Rosalyn and Sylvester Gumm. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years James Periord Sr., and her caring children Janet Hawkins, James Periord Jr. (Regina), Dave Periord, Steve Cagle, Connie McQuade (Tom), Dan Periord (Kathy), her daughter-in-law Jeanine Periord, her sister Elizabeth McDermitt, and brothers Tom (Lilly) and Bill Blackburn. Her son Gary Periord and stepfather Neal Blackburn, proceed her in death.
She was a devoted grandmother and will be greatly missed by Amanda, Josh (Krissy), Katie (Corey), Sandy (Mikey), Joe, Hannah, Lindsey, Abby, Natalie, Brandon (Madison) and Brittany, a special great-grandmother to Addison, Kinsley, Deagan, Evelyn, Henry and River, and cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. Lorraine was proud of her career as a nurse with St. Joseph Mercy Health, where she provided tender care for hundreds of patients. After retirement, she found much satisfaction volunteering for Faith In Action in Chelsea. A lifelong learner, Lorraine enjoyed programs through the Chelsea Adult Learner Institute and Chelsea Senior Center, and made many wonderful friends at The Pines in Chelsea. She will be greatly missed.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 30 from 5 to 8 pm at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, with a Vigil Service at 7:30 pm. A Mass in celebration of her life will take place at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea on Friday, August 31 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Chelsea.
