of Chelsea, MI. age 87, died Saturday, September 9, 2017 at her son's home. She was born March 9, 1930 at her parents’ home on Jerusalem Road, the daughter of Rudolph & Euna A. (Fiegel) Zahn.

Mrs. Herrst  was a lifetime resident of the Chelsea/Ann Arbor area.  She attended St. Thomas Lutheran Church for many years and was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Chelsea.  Mrs. Herrst was a member of the Chelsea High School class of 1948.  She worked at the United Methodist Retirement Home, then Mercywood, and finally retired from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after 18 years.  Elizabeth also worked on the farm most of her life.  She made many cakes (including wedding cakes for her children & grandchildren), volunteered 100s of hours for Chelsea Community Hospital, and donated her time and over 100 gallons of blood to the Red Cross.

   On February 19, 1949, she married Bernard R. Herrst, Sr., and he preceded her in death on June 27, 1993. Survivors include 4 sons and daughters-in-law, B. Ronald and Kathy,  Robert Donald and Sandi, Kenneth John and Annette, all of Chelsea and Erwin Alan and Deb of Manchester; 1 daughter, Susan Marie Cervera of Chelsea;  2 sisters, Delores Houk, Arlene March; 2 brothers, Paul and Raymond Zahn; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; several cousins and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Elizabeth Emma Herrst and Rose Ann Daniels; a grandson, Scott Koscielniak; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Dorothy Egeler, and a brother, Rudolph Zahn.

   Funeral services will be held Friday, September 15, 3:00 pm  at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Chelsea, with Pastor Dale Grimm officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Thomas Lutheran Cemetery, Ann Arbor. The family will receive friends Thursday,  2-4 & 6-8 pm at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family or Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1514 S.
