Aged 71, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor. He was born June 21, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Norman G. & Ardith L. (Rust) Smits.
 
Norm was stationed in Korea, in the Military Police, during the Vietnam era. He was the custodian at South Meadows Elementary for 10 years. Norm was a man of faith and listened to The Shepherd’s Chapel every morning. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and watch deer. Norm loved to look for great bargains and became quite a collector of many things. He enjoyed raising dogs over the years including Afghan Hounds and Labrador Retrievers.
 
 
Survivors include a sister, Phyllis Pulver of El Paso, TX; brother-in-law, Robert Benedict; and several nieces and nephews, Michal (Bob) Enders, Bruce (Sue) Young, Robert (Carol) Benedict III, Sandra (Joseph) Lantis, Susan (Bryan) Markey, and Norman (Laurie) Pulver. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Benedict and Ellen Smits; his father in1984; mother in 2015; and nephew David Pulver in 2008.
 
Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Jeff Crowder officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.  A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith In Action, 603 S. Main St., Chelsea, MI 48118.

Our condolences to the family, we're so very sorry for your loss. Norm was a great freind to mom and we all appreciate his friendship and help he gave her through the years. Norm will be missed.
