of Gregory, MI, formerly of Belleville, MI, age 97, died Saturday, October 8, 2016 at home in Gregory, MI. Doris was born September 1, 1919 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the daughter of George and Helen C. (Fenn) Essex.
She is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Carol (Arnold) Escher of Unadilla; son-in-law, Thomas Mitchell of Whitmore Lake; grandchildren, Karen (Stephen) Campbell, Kristen Mitchell, Edward Escher, all of Pinckney; great-grandchildren, Jack and Sarah Campbell, Kate and Ellie Ogg.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Maleski, her daughter, Marilyn Mitchell, and her brother, Darrell Essex.
Doris retired from the EMU Police Department in 1985. She was an avid gardener, quilter, and enjoyed cooking Sunday meals for her family. She was a member of the Lincoln Golden Ages Senior Center and the Farm Bureau Association.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 12, 11:00 am, at Cole Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ronald Schubert officiating. Burial will be at Alban Cemetery, Ypsilanti, MI. The family will receive friends at Cole Funeral Chapel Tuesday 3-9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Unadilla Presbyterian Church, 20175 Williamsville Rd, Gregory, MI 48137.
