Obituaries

Age 88, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at Legacy Assisted Living. She was born March 21, 1928 in Lyndon Township, Michigan, one of 16 children born to Edwin and Eva M. (Hart) Bauer.

Dorothy resided in the Chelsea area all of her life.  She retired from Applied Dynamics in Ann Arbor in January 1991, and was a member of the Chelsea First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed laughing and being with others, especially family members.  Her hobbies included bowling with her Senior Bowling League, and playing euchre with her family and friends. She loved to exercise at Curves and Anytime Fitness.

On March 13, 1948, she married Nathan H. Collins in Chelsea, who preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 2000. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda M. (David) Cangelosi of Spring Lake; three sons, Jerry L. of Oklahoma City, OK; Ronald E. (Arlene) of Shelby Township,  Timothy D. (Susan) of Chelsea; one brother, John Bauer of FL; 5 sisters, Shirley Jensen of Brighton, Sally Butler of Adrian, Norma Bauer of Otsego, Margaret Bauer of Howell, and Marjorie Holcomb of Howell; a sister-in-law, Barb (Dennis) Moffat of Ypsilanti; a daughter-in-law, Helen Collins of Chelsea; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald N. Collins; 7 brothers, Edwin, Edward, Richard, Thomas, William, Albert, and James Bauer; and 2 sisters, MaryAnn Tanner & Betty Hogge.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea.  The family will receive friends Friday 2-4 & 6-8 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Chelsea.
