of Chelsea, Michigan, age 95, died after a brief illness, on Friday, July 15, 2016, in Chelsea, Michigan. She was born August 29, 1920 in Chelsea, Michigan, the daughter of Lewis P. and Elisabeth A. (Schoenith) Vogel. Betty graduated from Chelsea High School in 1938. She attended Michigan State University and University of Michigan, earning a RN Degree. Betty worked in Georgia during WWII, then for U of M Hospital. She stayed home while Jane was young, then went back to work at U of M and volunteered at the United Methodist Home and Chelsea Community Hospital. Betty was active in Chelsea Women's Club and attended Chelsea Congregational Church and St. Paul U.C.C. She was known for her perfectly manicured lawn and beautiful flower gardens.
On Oct 14, 1944, she married Ralph M. Oesterle, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1984. Betty is survived by a daughter, Jane E. Creswell of Chelsea. Betty was the last surviving member of 10 siblings.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 20, 11:00 a.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Joe Jeffreys officiating. A private burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Chelsea. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea Area Historical Society.
