Obituaries

of Dexter, MI, age 80, died Thursday, February 25, 2016 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti. He was born August 16, 1935 the son of Oscar & Wilda (McVay) Bareis. He was born in Chelsea and raised on the family farm in Lima Township.  Richard taught wood and metal shop and drafting for 35 years, at Dexter High School from 1959 to 1966, and at Beach Middle School in Chelsea from 1966 to 1994. He coached high school wrestling, football, and intramural sports.  Richard was a member and lay leader of Zion Lutheran Church, Chelsea.  He was a 4H leader for Rogers Corners Herdsmen.  Richard farmed and raised sheep for 40 years.  He was an avid carpenter and wood carver.

 He was married to Arlene for 57 years, and she survives. Other survivors include his children, Cheryl (Tom) Quinn of Chelsea, Diane (Ken) Greble of Fowlerville, David Bareis of Dexter, Judy (Fernando) Hermosillo of Dexter; six grandchildren, Alex Quinn, Patrick Quinn, Anna Hermosillo, Fernando G. Hermosillo, Sara Thacker, Kaitlyn Greble; his siblings, Oscar Bareis, Philip (Helen) Bareis, Carolyn (Dale) Schuster; his brother-in-law, Norman (Pam) Loeffler.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Wilda Bareis, sister-in-law, Mary Bareis and brother-in-law, Carl Loeffler.    

   Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 1, 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, Chelsea, with Pastor Kathy Tulman officiating.  Burial followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Chelsea. The family received friends at Cole Funeral Chapel Monday, February 29, 2-4 & 6-8 pm and at the church Tuesday from 9:30 - 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
