Obituaries

of Chelsea, MI,  formerly of Warren, age 83, died Friday, October 30, 2015 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born October 12, 1932 in Detroit, the son of Edward Nicholas & Genevieve “Alice” (Boland) Duffey.  Duff was a test and field engineer for Federal Mogul for 38½ years in Detroit and Ann Arbor before retiring in December of 1994. He was a US Army Veteran, and he served in the Korean War from 1949-1952 in the 7th Infantry, earning the Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze battle stars.  Duff spent his young days in Wolverine, MI with his grandparents, where he learned to enjoy hunting, fishing, bear watching. Duff took pride in landscaping and taking care of his home, and even won a home tour award. He loved dogs, and had more than 20 pet dogs over the years, including his current dog, Maggie.

On July 4, 1953, he married Barbara Hines at Our Lady Queen-Heaven Church in Detroit, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Debra Brown of Clarkston, Sheri (Mike) Cicirelli of Grass Lake; a sister, Shirley (Robert) Hall; sister-in-law, Leah Duffey; two grandchildren, Christine (Mike) Lazarecki, Michael Cicirelli; a great-granddaughter, Kayden; and several nieces & nephews, including Kim Kaminski Ilyasov who lived with them for several years.  He was preceded in death by his son, John, in 2015; his brother, John; his parents; his step-mother, Lillian “Lee” (Karkota) Duffey; and his step-father, Romie Bishop.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov 5, 1:00 p.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Deacon Tom Franklin officiating.  Burial followed at Oak Grove East Cemetery in Chelsea.  The family received friends Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm, and Thursday from noon - 1 pm.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
