Obituaries

of Pinckney, MI, age 72, died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at University Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born November 12, 1942 in Chelsea, Michigan, the son of William J. & Mary B. (Honeck) Hafner. Leo was a 1960 graduate of Chelsea High School. He worked at U of M in maintenance, retiring in 1993. Leo enjoyed cruising in his old car. He was a conservationist who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Leo belonged to the Pigeon Club “American Giant Homers Association” and raised rabbits.

On June 27, 1970, he married Dorothy Smith in Flint, and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Jason Hafner of Pinckney and Frank Hafner of Dexter; one granddaughter, Mary Esther Hafner; three sisters, Barbara Lou Anderson of Bonifay, FL, Norma Hards of Dexter, Gloria Near of Saline; two brothers, Leonard and Dennis, both of Chelsea. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine Hafner, Mary Ann Hafner, Clara “Jenny” Brown; and two brothers, 'Bud' and LaVern Hafner.

A memorial service was held Friday, August 21, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Deacon Tom Franklin officiating. The family received friends 10-11 am.  Memorial contributions may be made to the National Wild Turkey Federation, Post Office Box 530, Edgefield, SC 29824-0530.
