Obituaries

of  Chelsea, Michigan; formerly of Bridgeport, WV, passed away at the Chelsea Retirement Center on March 12, 2015, at age 88. He was born in Ulysses, Kentucky, on July 8, 1926, to Mary (George) and Emmit Preston and served honorably in Japan and the Philippines during WWII.  After marrying Tressie Cooper, of Elkview, WV, he moved to Bridgeport, WV, and worked for Thomas, Field, and Co. as a regional salesman; he also owned a clothing store named “The Quality Center” in downtown Bridgeport. 

In 1976 he founded Preston Carpet Distributors which is now Abraham Linc Corporation.  Golfing, bowling, boating, and socializing with friends were among his hobbies.  The Simpson Creek Baptist Church was a central part of his life where he served as a deacon, superintendent of Sunday School, and chair of fund raising committees. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Tressie Preston of Silver Maples in Chelsea, MI; daughter, Rebecca Preston Tisch and her husband, Randy, of Ann Arbor; daughter, Mary Sue Preston of Charleston, WV; and granddaughter, Kathryn Tisch Shah and her husband, Neal, of New York City.   Charles is predeceased by his parents and brothers, Herman, Emmit, and Eugene. 

Arrangements are being made by Cole Funeral Chapel and a private service will be held at Silver Maples.  Memorial donations may be made to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.
