Obituaries

of Chelsea, Michigan, age 77, died peacefully Thursday, February 26, 2015 after a long brave battle.  He died in his home surrounded by his family and with his pastor at his side. He was born August 10, 1937 in Belmont, North Carolina, the son of George Alexander & Katie Frances (Featherstone) Bowen.

 Tony grew up in Belmont, NC, attended college in Ft Wayne, IN, and has lived in Chelsea since 1960.  Tony loved his family. He loved golfing, fishing, and canoeing.  His hobby was carving Santa Clauses. Tony was a member of  St. Paul United Church of Christ.  He retired from Chrysler Corporation as an Engineering Manager. Tony was a long-time member of the Inverness Country Club, President of St. Paul United Church of Christ for many years, long-time member of JC’s, and past President of the Chelsea Recreation Department.

Tony married Shirley Krichbaum in Servia, Indiana, 58 years ago this past December, and she survives. Other survivors include three sons, Steve (Michelle) in Charlevoix, Mike (Sue) and Doug (Risa) in Chelsea; one daughter, Cyndi Bowen of Chelsea;  9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents;  two sisters, Dawn Cobb, Joanne Brown; a grandson Alex Kussurelis; and a great-granddaughter Natalie Bush.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 2, 11:00 am at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Chelsea, with Pastor Jim Coyl officiating.  Burial will follow at North Lake Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Cole Funeral Chapel on Sunday, March 1, 2-6 pm and Monday 10-11am at the church.
