bulletPearl Servais

of Chelsea, Michigan.  I’d say my major activity was being a wife to Phil and mother to two children, a girl born in 1943 and a boy in 1946. Nursing interests, however, are a constant. In the early 40s, I taught Red Cross Health Care courses. The Midland Visiting Nurses was just getting started. I was on the board and when the Director/Nurse, one person, had a too heavy load, I made calls too. I’m written up in the Visiting Nurses’ history as making calls by bicycle, which I denied many times, but the idea still stands. Actually I walked or borrowed a board member’s car. The misconception was made because until after our son was born, our sole transportation was a bicycle. Other activities were giving allergy shots to neighbor children, but our daughter preferred going to an M.D. for her shots. In general, it seemed I was called upon for advice before the doctor was consulted. In 1970, after five years in Guelph, Ontario, where Phil was on assignment, we returned to Midland and our children were both married within two weeks of each other. I then took a refresher course at Delta College and was relief nurse at the Midland Hospital in OB/Gyn for four years. That was when I realized that it didn’t make much sense for me to work every other weekend while Phil went to our lake property on Lake Michigan near Ludington. In 1980 Phil retired from Dow Corning after 40 years and in 1981, our lake property became our permanent home. At this time, our interests are in the outdoors. Phil and I are both charter members and are active in Oceana Audubon Society and West Michigan Mycological Society. Phil and I celebrated our 50th anniversary on May 3rd of this year. We count our blessings. Pearl died Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Chelsea Retirement Community at the age of 92. She was born June 2, 1917 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin , the daughter of Edwin & Ida (Jaeger) Lambrecht.  She graduated as a registered nurse from the University of Wisconsin where she met her husband, Philip Servais. They were married in Milwaukee, WI on May 3, 1941. They lived from 1941 to 1981 in Midland, where they had many life-long
friends, with the exception of five years in the late 1960's which they spent in Guelph, Ontario.  Pearl and Phil greatly enjoyed 20 years of retirement at their home on the shore of Lake Michigan north of Pentwater. They moved to south-east Michigan in 2000. Philip preceded Pearl in death on Aug. 19, 2006.  Survivors include a daughter, Marita Servais of Ann Arbor ; a son, Paul (Dr. Marilyn) Servais of Boyne City; a brother, Donald Lambrecht of Green Bay; and  nieces, Anne Dolan & Susan Lambrecht.  A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 14, 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor.
