bulletMark S. McClain

9/11/1951 – 12/14/2007

"Everything happens for a reason", Mark would often say. At Mark’s passing at age 56, his family and friends are struggling to believe as he believed. While his sudden and unexpected death on December 14th may now seem like a cruel trick of the universe, he would ask us to accept it as part of the natural cycle of birth, death and transformation. He believed with all his heart that something better awaits on the other side. One word underscored Mark’s life, Love; open, accepting and unconditional. He gave freely all the love, joy and hope that bubbled so naturally from him on family, friends, co-workers, the kids on his school busses and animals. He embraced spiritual teachings and philosophies from across the globe and across the ages. He revered music, baseball and women’s basketball as well as Tangerine Dream, Barry Bonds & Cheryl Swoops. He was appalled by hostility, aggression and intolerance. He was a backpacker, nature lover and a six time Grand Canyon hiker. He is survived by his wife Marsha, his two sisters; Diane McClain & Robin and husband Rick Chinavare. Two sisters-in-law; Stephanie Collins & Brenda Gillispie & partner Bev Dundon, niece Rachael Giljum and four grand nephews; Tyler, Trevor, Joe and Nick, our 8 beloved cats; Amber, Lucy, Casey, Cody, Desi, Anubis, Stetson & Beryle and many friends with whom he was close. Mark was preceded in death by his mother Barbara McClain and grandmother Worth Thompson. A coming together of Mark’s family and friends will happen in January. Everyone is welcome to read something they’ve written, tell a story or simply hug and share a good cry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Huron Valley Humane Society. Bless you Mark, now and forever.  We love you.
